It’s fitting that the first blog post on this newer website, is personal. This business has always been personal to me.
My sweet baby boy has grown up into a High School Senior, and in just a few weeks, he’ll walk the stage and graduate high school. Where did all those years go? It feels like last week I was changing his diaper and spoon feeding him and rocking him to sleep. Then there was this cute little boy looking up at me and chattering away, and then…POOF…I woke up to a young man who’s taller than me with facial hair. Time didn’t slow down.
Approaching his recent 18th birthday, I did what I presume most moms do. I strolled down memory lane. That may have been a mistake. Two hours later I was red faced and puffy eyed with a small mountain of used Kleenexes between me and a computer screen. I was grieving the loss of my baby. I had to face the reality that I’m nearing the end of this chapter of life, the raising children part. I have one more baby to go.
I’m so glad we’d completed his Senior Portrait Session months before his big birthday and graduation. Of course I had a few tears that day, and again designing his Senior Album, and again hanging his Senior Portrait on the wall. Honestly, even writing this blog post is difficult. The tears have returned.
You see, Levi was about a year old when I bought my first high quality prime lens. That sweet red headed boy was the fuel that reignited my love of photography. By the time his brother was born in 2009, I was ready to take a big leap from side-gig to opening my first botique studio. Behind the lens, there has always been a mom of two little baby boys that grew into teenagers. And now, here we are at the last big milestone to photograph him as an individual, the high school senior.
Levi chose several outfits that represented his personality. He obliged me with an hour at the studio. And this is a sampling of what we created together.
Levi German, 18y old, High School Senior Session
We all have a lot of pictures on our phones, but we so rarely enjoy them unless they make it to print and on the walls of our home. This was Levi’s choice for the framed senior portrait we’d display in our home forever. It’s comforting to see him at this age, preserved for all time. And yes, I sometimes stop and stare at it and the tears return.
Congratulations, baby. Mama is very proud of the young adult you have become. I love you with all of my heart.
